Garden Clearance in Highbury and Islington N1 – Green Waste and Plant Pots

The Clearance and Access

This is the one garden job in our case studies where the load genuinely is garden waste. Bagged cuttings, weeds and a bundle of woody stems pulled off a wall — compostable, and exactly what a council green waste collection exists for. Which is what makes the pots worth talking about.

Plant pots are the classic contaminant in a green load. Terracotta is not compostable and plastic pots are rarely accepted in kerbside recycling, so a handful of them among the cuttings is enough to turn a clean green load into a mixed one. They came out separately, and the plastic ones nest, so they cost almost no van space. The carry was about twenty metres from the rear garden down the side passage — worth knowing, because a side return is the difference between this job and one where everything has to come through the house. Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the London Borough of Islington and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. The green waste was separated from the pots rather than the two travelling as one load, which is the approach set out on our responsible rubbish clearance page. The Result

The frontage was clear in a single visit, with the household's own bins and recycling boxes left exactly where they were. The cuttings went off as green waste rather than as a mixed load, which is the entire reason for keeping the pots out of them.
