Mattress and Divan Base Collection on City Road EC1V – Same-Day Case Study

MM Rubbish Clearance collected a double mattress and a divan base from the entrance of an apartment building on City Road, EC1V, in February 2026. Both had been brought down to the frontage before we arrived. The van was there for a matter of minutes.

The Clearance and Access

People book "a mattress collection" and forget the base. A double divan is the same footprint as the mattress that sits on it, it does not fold and it does not come apart: a solid upholstered box, roughly 1.9 metres by 1.35. That is two items rather than one, and the second is the awkward one. Worth saying when you book, because it changes the van space and therefore the price.

The customer had brought both down to the frontage before we arrived, which is why the van was there for a few minutes instead of half an hour. Where they were standing mattered too: the doors behind them are marked London Fire Brigade access only. A mattress and a divan propped against that frontage is not something a building manager leaves for long, and on a stretch of City Road with this much footfall it is not something that should be left at all. Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the London Borough of Islington and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. The mattress went onto its own line rather than into the general load, and the divan base — timber frame, foam, fabric and springs in a single unit — was broken down at the facility rather than on the pavement, which is the approach set out on our responsible rubbish clearance page. The Result

Both items gone in one short stop and the entrance clear. On a building frontage that is the entire point: the collection has to be quick enough that it does not become the obstruction it came to remove.
