Commercial Clearance in Oxford Circus W1 – New Bar Fit-Out Case Study

MM Rubbish Clearance cleared the packaging left behind by a new bar fit-out near Oxford Circus, W1. Flat-pack cartons, protective sheets, plastic wrapping and bagged waste had been stacked out on the pavement ready for collection. The Clearance and Access

Cardboard is the most deceptive load in this trade. What was on the pavement here is six to eight cubic yards by volume and almost nothing by weight — a bar fit-out produces a carton for every fitting, right down to the box a 50cm mirror ball arrives in. Broken down flat it loses well over half that volume, which is the difference between one van and two.

That mattered because the van could not sit outside the venue. Loading restrictions, red routes and the one-way system around Oxford Circus meant parking on a nearby side street and carrying to it. With three operatives, two broke cartons down at the pile while the third ran the carry — so every walk to the van was made with a flat, dense armful rather than an open box full of air. Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the City of Westminster and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. Because it was almost entirely clean, dry cardboard, approximately 95% of the load was recycled. A Waste Transfer Note was provided — a legal requirement for any business disposing of commercial waste. MM Rubbish Clearance is an Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier, licence CBDU418527.

The Result

The pavement was cleared in a single visit and left completely clean, and the bar opened on schedule. The two photographs are taken from the same spot: several metres of stacked cartons in one, bare paving in the other. No skip, no permit and no road space taken on one of the busiest stretches in London.
