Mattress Collection in Shoreditch E1 – Single Mattress from a Managed Block

MM Rubbish Clearance collected a single double mattress from a modern apartment development in Shoreditch E1, near Boxpark. It had been brought down and left standing in the communal corridor by the entrance — which, in a managed block, is not somewhere it can stay.

The Clearance and Access

A mattress is one item and one of the hardest things to get rid of. It does not fold, it will not go in a car, most councils charge per mattress and make you wait for a slot, and it cannot be tipped into a general waste stream — mattresses are handled on their own line at the transfer station.

In a managed block there is a second clock running. A mattress standing in a communal corridor is not simply untidy: communal corridors are escape routes, and building managers do not leave obstructions in them for long. This one had already come down in the lift, so there was no stair carry at all — lift to corridor, corridor to van, with the vehicle parked close to the entrance. E1 is a Controlled Parking Zone, so that stop was planned rather than chanced. More at mattress collection London.

Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. Mattresses are separated from general waste and handled on their own line, with springs, foam and fabric recovered separately where the facility can do it — the approach set out on our responsible rubbish clearance page. The Result

The corridor was clear the same visit and the mattress gone from the building altogether, rather than moved from one communal space to another. One item, one collection, and no waiting on a council booking slot.
