Rubbish Clearance in Mildmay N1 โ€“ What a Quarter Van Load Actually Looks Like

MM Rubbish Clearance cleared a bed set and bedroom furniture from outside a property in Mildmay, Islington N1. A slatted bed base, a metal frame, a mattress, a drawer unit, a bag and some timber offcuts were out on the pavement. The useful thing here is not the job โ€” it is the photograph afterwards.

The Clearance and Access

The after photograph does something none of our others do: it shows the load in the van. That is worth more than a figure. The body is a fourteen cubic yard caged tipper, and what came off this pavement sits across the cage floor at roughly a quarter of it. Next time somebody quotes you "a quarter van load", that is the picture of one. Mildmay is a Controlled Parking Zone too, so the van loads from a resident bay โ€” and having the waste already out keeps that to minutes, not an hour.

The bed is the interesting part. A slatted base is one of the few bulky items that is genuinely good timber: solid softwood slats, screwed rather than glued, no veneer, no board. That is a higher grade of wood recycling than the flat-pack drawer unit beside it, which is chipboard and goes lower. Two bits of bedroom furniture on one pavement, two destinations. The metal frame is scrap, and the mattress takes its own route. More at rubbish clearance London.

Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the London Borough of Islington and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. The timber, metal frame, mattress and bagged waste were separated rather than tipped as one, the approach set out on our responsible rubbish clearance page. Mattresses are not general waste and have their own processing route. A Waste Transfer Note was issued. MM Rubbish Clearance is an Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier, licence CBDU418527.

The Result

The pavement was clear in a single visit, the low wall and frontage untouched. The photograph shows both halves of the job at once โ€” empty paving, and the same load stacked in the cage behind it.
