Mattress Removal on Great Cumberland Place, W1H – A Bed Carried Down Tight Stairs From a Small Flat by Marble Arch

MM Rubbish Clearance removed a large mattress and a dismantled bed frame from a small upper-floor flat on Great Cumberland Place, by Marble Arch, W1H. The customer was moving abroad. There was no lift, the stairs were narrow and tricky, and everything had to be carried through the flat and down by hand.

Who Clears Beds and Mattresses When You're Moving Abroad?

We do. When you're leaving the country, the bed is usually one of the last things to go, and nobody wants to leave it for a landlord or the next tenant. This customer was moving abroad and needed the mattress and bed frame gone from the flat before leaving.

How Do You Carry a Large Mattress Down Tight Stairs in Marylebone?

Slowly, and one piece at a time. The flat was small, so there was little room to turn a full-size mattress inside it. The walls on the stairs were narrow, and there was no lift. The bed frame was already in pieces, so the rails, slats and headboard could be carried down separately. The mattress went down by hand, guided round each turn of the stairs.

The before photo was taken at 4:07pm and the after photo at 4:32pm, about 25 minutes apart. The bedroom was left empty. The tower fan in the corner stayed, because only the bed was being cleared.

What Should I Know Before a Mattress Collection Near Marble Arch?

Two things. First, stairs like these are a two-person job. We did this one with a single operator, but on narrow stairs with no lift we would now send two operatives, one at each end of the mattress. Tell us about the stairs and the floor when you book, so we send the right crew.

Second, parking around Great Cumberland Place is paid bays or permit holders only. If you have a visitor permit or know where the van can stop, tell us before the day.

What Happens to an Old Mattress and Bed Frame?

The mattress and bed frame were kept apart from general rubbish where possible. Metal or timber bed frames are recycled with metal or wood. The load was collected within the City of Westminster and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. A digital Waste Transfer Note was issued under our Environment Agency registration CBDU418527 (Carrier Dealer – Upper Tier).
