The Clearance and Access

A fit-out generates packaging faster than anyone can store it. Every display, every piece of equipment and every crate of glassware arrives in a box roughly twice its own size, and within a few days the room the trades need to work in is the room the boxes are stacked in. So this was a mid fit-out collection rather than an end-of-job one — the floor protection was still down and the contractor's battens were still against the wall when we left.

The other half of a City Road job is what it costs before anything is lifted. There is no loading bay outside, parking is restricted, and the unit sits inside the Congestion Charge Zone — so a central London collection carries a charge on the vehicle whatever is in the back of it. Responsible Disposal

The load was collected within the London Borough of Islington and taken to a licensed recycling and waste transfer station. The load was almost entirely clean, dry cardboard and protective paper, which is about as recoverable as commercial waste gets, and all of the cardboard was sent for recycling — the approach set out on our responsible rubbish clearance page. A Waste Transfer Note was issued, which is a legal requirement for any business disposing of commercial waste. The Result

The room was cleared of packaging in a single visit and the fit-out carried on the same day, which was the point of the job. The after photograph shows the floor protection still down and the contractor's materials still in place: this was about giving the trades their space back, not emptying the unit.
