MM Rubbish Clearance removed a large leather sofa from a top-floor loft room in a house on Regent's Park Road, Primrose Hill, NW1. It could not come out in one piece, because the corridor was too narrow and there were three flights of stairs to get down. A two-person crew broke it down in the room, carried the pieces down and out to the front, and cleared the pavement. From the first photo to the cleared pavement took about 22 minutes.
Book a collection with a licensed waste carrier who will take it from the room it is in, not just from the kerb. On Regent's Park Road the sofa was in a loft room three flights up, and the corridor was too narrow for it to come out in one piece.

If it won't go back the way it came, it has to come apart. We always check for removable legs, arms and backs first. This sofa had none, and the corridor outside the loft room was too narrow to turn it. So we broke the timber frame down in the room and separated it into sections small enough for two people to carry down three flights of stairs.
Breaking a sofa down is a last resort, not our first move. Done in the room, it means no fight with the corridor or the staircase, and no scraped walls or banisters on the way down. The pieces were then carried down through the house to the front, where parking was no problem.

Yes. Environment Agency guidance on waste upholstered domestic seating covers seating upholstered in leather or synthetic leather, not just fabric. Sofas like this one are treated as possibly containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs). That means they must be kept separate from general waste and sent for destruction, not landfill.
The load was collected within the London Borough of Camden and taken to a licensed waste transfer station. The leather, foam and other upholstered parts went for disposal as POPs waste, and the parts that could be recycled were recycled, in line with the approach on our responsible rubbish clearance page. A digital Waste Transfer Note was issued under our Environment Agency registration CBDU418527 (Carrier Dealer – Upper Tier). See the Environment Agency guidance on upholstered seating.

On this job, about 22 minutes from the first photo to a clear pavement. The photo of the sofa being broken down in the loft room was taken at 10:22am. The sections were out at the front by 10:37am, and the pavement was clear at 10:44am.
